PG medicos stage sit-in protest at Coimbatore GH demanding PG counseling; Boycott OP treatment

The post-graduation medical students staged a sit-in protest in front of the GH Dean’s office, boycotting OP treatment.

Coimbatore: Post-graduate medical students staged a sit-in protest demanding admission counselling for PG first-year students.

Post-graduate medicos boycotted the Outpatient treatment at the Coimbatore Government Hospital and staged a sit-in protest in front of the Dean’s office demanding immediate conduct of admission counseling for PG first-year medical students.

They added that their workload and stress had already hiked due to the absence of the next batch. The student doctors in hospitals including Chennai and Madurai agitated for consultations.

NEET which is usually held in January with admissions done in April through counseling, was held in September this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Cases on reservation for economically backward general category and OBC are still pending at the Supreme Court, due to which there has been no enrolment of the next batch for the past three months. More than 1.50 lakh students who wrote the exam await counseling.

"Over 40,000 students across India, 2,500 in Tamil Nadu would have been enrolled in the post-graduate courses if the counseling was in progress. PG doctors treat patients in medical college hospitals, but the absence of first-year students till date has already increased the workload and distressed the second and third-year students," lamented the agitators, demanding immediate counseling for the first-year postgraduates.
