Coimbatore: The Air Intelligence Wing in Coimbatore International Airport seized around 640 grams of gold worth ₹ 31.68 lakhs.
Around 640.110 grams of 24 Karat gold worth Rs.31.68 lakhs has been seized by the Air Intelligence Unit in Coimbatore. Based on intelligence, one male passenger who arrived from Sharjah by Air Arabia Flight No.G9-413 on November 28 was intercepted by the officers of the Air Intelligence Unit in Coimbatore at the Exit gate.
On interrogation, the passenger admitted that he had concealed three numbers of oval-shaped black colored polythene packets containing complex gold paste in his rectum. All the three oval-shaped packets were taken out by the passenger and handed over to the officers of the Air Intelligence Unit, Coimbatore International Airport. On purification, 640.110 grams of 24 Karat gold valued at ₹ 31.68 Lakhs was retrieved and seized under the Customs Act, 1962. The passenger was arrested under the Customs Act, 1962.
