Kavi Aruvi tourist area in Pollachi closed due to floods

The Forest Department has announced a ban on bathing in Kavi Aruvi owing to the incessant rains that have caused flooding in the Falls.

Pollachi: The Forest Department has announced that tourists will not be able to bathe in Kavi Aruvi in Pollachi due to floods.

Tourists frequenting Kavi Aruvi in Pollachi, Valparai Road were left disappointed after the Forest Department banned tourists from entering Kavi Aruvi. Incessant rains in recent days in the Western Ghats have caused floods in the waterbodies in the area, and logs and rocks being washed down due to floods have been a rising concern.

Due to the depression, the catchment areas of western Ghats including Upper Aliyar and Valparai continue to receive heavy rainfall. The Aliyar reservoir has reached the brim at 120 feet, with the surplus water being discharged periodically based on the flow in the dam. This has subsequently caused floods in the Aliyar river. Hence, the Public Works Department officials have also issued flood warnings to people living along the Aliyar river bank.
