Three men were arrested in connection with the theft of a 5-sovereign chain from an 80-year old woman near Palladam in Tirupur district.
Coimbatore: Karuppusamy's wife Deivathal (80) of Lakshmi Mill area next to Palladam in Tirupur district lost her husband and was living with her son, Ayyasamy. On November 22, when Deivathal was walking alone near her home, two youth who followed her on a two-wheeler snatched her 5-sovereign chain and fled the scene. Deivathai stumbled during the incident and was seriously injured on falling to the ground.
Her son Ayyasamy admitted her to the Palladam Government Hospital and lodged a complaint at the Palladam Police Station. Palladam police were conducting an investigation based on the footage recorded by the surveillance camera in the area. A special team led by Palladam DSP Vetriselvan conducted an intense investigation.
The investigation revealed that Surya and Vignesh from Pollachi Kottur area were responsible for the theft. The police arrested Surya, Vignesh and Surya's mother Saraswati who was an accomplice to them. The police also confiscated 5 sovereigns worth of gold chain from them. It is reported that there are 20 cases filed against Surya in Palani, Dindigul, Karur and Tirupur.
