Water pipelines are being laid under the Jal Jeevan Scheme in Somanthuraichithur Panchayat under Anaimalai Union. The locals of the village stormed the Panchayat office after there was no supply of drinking water, despite payment and laying of pipes. The agitators also alleged that the potholes dug during construction remain unclosed, causing accidents.
“Very few have been provided with water connections in Somanthuraichithur village despite payment of ₹.3680 for deposits, water charges and people’s contributions. Also, motorists suffer accidents and get injured due to potholes in the road and rainwater logging during monsoons. All the beneficiaries who have paid deposits should be provided with an immediate connection, and action has to be taken to maintain health and repair roads immediately," demanded the locals.
