A total of 2153 polling stations are to be set up for the urban local polls in Coimbatore and the election commission will inspect these booths for the availability of basic amenities.
Coimbatore: An inspection regarding the availability of basic amenities in polling booths in Coimbatore is to be held ahead of the urban local polls.
The district election commission is planning on reviewing the polling booths in Coimbatore for the availability of basic amenities, set up for the urban local body elections. “Water supply, toilet facilities, power supply, building quality will be checked in the decided polling booths in the city”, stated a district election officer.
2153 polling stations will be set up for local body elections in Municipal Corporation, Municipalities, and Town Panchayats in the Coimbatore district.
One polling station per 1400 voters in Corporations and one polling booth per 1200 voters in municipalities and Town Panchayats is sanctioned for the forthcoming elections. A polling list has been prepared in the Coimbatore district based on these details.
Accordingly, a total of 1290 polling booths will be set up in 100 wards in Coimbatore Corporation, 69 polling booths in 33 wards in Mettupalayam Municipality, 89 polling stations in 36 wards in Pollachi Municipality, 73 polling stations in 21 wards in Valparai Municipality, and 632 polling booths in 513 wards in 33 Town Panchayats are set up.
