The Tamil Nadu Chief Conservator of Forests inspected the spot in Navakkarai where a 25-year old pregnant elephant, a makna elephant and a baby female elephant died in the accident last Friday.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Chief Wildlife Conservator, Shekhar Kumar Niraj inspected the spot in Navakkarai where three wild elephants were killed by a speeding train on Friday.
A case was registered against the loco pilot Subair and assistant Akhil who were booked under the Wildlife Protection Act in connection with the incident. A 25-year old pregnant elephant, a makna elephant and a baby female elephant died in the accident.
The death of the three wild elephants saddened the public and forest officials, after which a pressing demand was also placed for appropriate action to prevent such accidents in the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border areas.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Wildlife Conservator, Shekhar Kumar Neeraj inspected the accident spot this afternoon and directed to install additional watch towers and CCTV cameras at the ‘A’ and ‘B’ tracks.
He also advised them to increase the patrolling of forest staff at night and to carry out night surveillance using thermal drone cameras.
He also enquired in detail about the work done by the forest staff at the accident spot.
