Coimbatore:A giant tree was uprooted in Ooty, in Nilgiris district on Thursday night due to heavy rains.
The giant tree which was uprooted due to incessant rains lashing Nilgiris district this month had fallen across the road on the Woodlands-ATC road near the Ooty bus stand area. Power supply was cut off and traffic disrupted in the area. The Ooty fire brigade cut down the tree with the help of a power machine and cleared the route.
The district has been receiving heavy rainfall extensively for the past few days.As of 8 am on Friday, rainfall in Kundha was recorded at 73 mm, Avalanche at 55 mm and other places recorded upto 30 mm rainfall. The average rainfall was recorded at 22.55 mm.
