Water level in Uppar Dam in Dharapuram to reach its brim, farmers rejoice

The water level in Uppar Dam in Dharapuram will reach its full reservoir level, due to the incessant rains, bringing cheer to the farmers and the locals as the reservoir sees inflow after 20 years.


Tirupur: The level of water in the Uppar Dam in Dharapuram district has increased after 20 years, bringing joy to the farmers.

The farmers in and around the Uppar Dam, under the Kundadam Panchayat near Dharapuram in Tirupur, are rejoicing as the water levels in the reservoir are gradually reaching its brim. The dam has been dry for the past 20 years, and water was released from the Thirumoorthy Dam once a year, due to the agitation of the farmers.



The water level currently in the reservoir is 21.30-feet against the full capacity of 24-feet due to increased rainfall in Uppar and Thirumoorthy Dams. The Uppar streams are flooded.

The surplus water from the Thirumoorthy dam and the floodwater from the streams reached the Uppar dam, after 20 long years.



Farmers, public rejoiced and visited the Uppar Dam. The reservoir is likely to reach its full capacity of 24 feet anytime, therefore flood warnings have been issued to the residents in the coastal regions of Uppar reservoir including Alampalayam, Thoppampatti, Chinniya Koundampalayam Nanjiyampalayam.



Locals have been advised to evacuate from low-lying areas.
