The protesters dispersed only after Govt. officials assured that talks will be held on Friday with regard to the 2-acre Corporation land encroachment by G-Square real estate firm in Varadharajapuram.

Coimbatore: Government officials assured the protesting residents of Varadharajapuram that they would hold talks on Friday at 12.30 pm in connection with the 2-acre Corporation land encroachment by G-Square real estate near D-Mart in Varadharajapuram.

The officials rushed to the spot only after MP Natarajan joined the protest. The agitators stated that their pathway was being blocked since a compound wall was being erected on the encroached land. MP Natarajan spoke to the officials stating that “lands were being occupied in Kamaraj Nagar with the support of Government officials. The public has been put through much discomfort since their path is blocked. They staged a protest since no action has been taken thus far, despite their petition with regard to the encroachment issue in Varadharajapuram. Locals too came in support and participated in the protest.”

The MP requested that the land be surveyed expeditiously. He further added that the narrowing of roads in the name of reformation has to be stopped and the bus stand which was shifted has to be relocated to the old spot. Hence, the Surveyor and Town Planning Officer, led by the Tahsildar then began measuring the encroached area.

The protesters along with MP Natarajan dispersed from the area only after being assured that talks would be held regarding the land encroachment.
