In a vehicle inspection 10 tonnes of ration rice was confiscated and was taken to the police station. In the vehicle check it was also revealed that rice was reportedly smuggled from the Sundarapuram area to Kanjikode. Driver Ramakrishnan, (39), of Palakkad district, was arrested.
Coimbatore: Madukkarai police was informed last night that rice was being smuggled to Kerala in a lorry.
Led by Inspector Vairam, SI, Kaviyarasu, SSI, Kathiresan and Policeman Kumaresan, the team was engaged in a vehicle check on the Coimbatore-Palakkad National Highway near the petrol bunk next to the Madukkarai Marappalam.
In the check a lorry was stopped and checked. The lorry was found to be transporting 10 tonnes of smuggled ration rice and was taken to the police station.
