The city police have arrested a local businessman after his wife alleges him of abuse over dowry issue.
Coimbatore: A businessman hailing from Coimbatore was arrested after his wife alleged him of abuse over dowry issue.
Keerthi, (38) Team Leader at an IT company in Bengaluru lodged a complaint at the Thudiyalur All-women police station stating her husband, Senthil Kumar, (45), from Thoppampatti Kurichi town near Tudiyalur that the latter and his family abused her demanding dowry.
According to Keerthi’s complaint, the duo was married in 2008 in Sulur and the husband’s family received 64 sovereign gold and a lakh in cash as dowry. The couple had a dispute over Senthil’s extramarital affair, while Senthil’s family troubled Keerthi demanding more money. Keerthi also alleged that her husband used to often take money from her for business purposes.
'An amount of 4 lakh was taken from me for my husband’s mother’s medical expenses, and 6 lakh for business. Senthil’s family pushed me out of the house if I denied money.'
Senthil also bought a car pledging Keerthi’s jewels for 10 lakhs, pushing Keerthi to return to Thoppampatti, but the troubles continued. Senthil Kumar, his mother Vijayalakshmi, daughter Bhuvaneswari and her husband Gopal, daughter Venkatalakshmi and Sangeetha (a) Sharmila issued death threats to Keerthi, demanding more money. Keerthi has lodged a petition demanding appropriate action against the family.
Investigating, the Thudiyalur police registered a case under dowry harassment, death threats, and female abuse and produced him before a judge who arrested businessman Senthil Kumar in Bengaluru and lodged him in Sathyamangalam jail.
Senthil runs a textile wholesale business in Bengaluru and Coimbatore and Keerthi earns 2 lakhs per month.
