Wild elephants are damaging homes at night in search of food in mid day meals centers, grocery stores and school campuses.
Thus, the public is in a state of panic as a herd of 8 wild elephants entered the school premises at Panchayat Union Primary School in Saddle Dam area near Valparai at around 2pm last night.
The window and door were broken and were damaged.
They went to the nearby nursery area and broke the window wall and took away the eggs, rice, flour and other food items stored in the premises. The food provisions were kept for the children inside were either eaten or damaged by the gang of wild tuskers. Nearby civilians chased the elephants into the forest by bursting firecrackers.
The public has demanded the forest department to provide protection and to prevent wild elephants from entering the residential area.
