The posters of former President Dr. Abdul Kalam and freedom fighter VOC were pasted on the pillars of the Sungam Bride, which is under construction in Coimbatore on account of CM’s visit.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s visit to Coimbatore gives the pillars of the under-construction bridge in Sungam a makeover. Posters of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and VO Chidambaram Pillai were posted on the pillars.
According to the Tamil Nadu Government Offices Prohibition of Conversion Act, it is unlawful to put up posters, advertisements in government offices, flyovers, government buses. Despite the ban, it is a recurring act that posters are being put up in the flyover pillars. Two pillars of the under-construction flyover in the Sungam area had political posters, which the Coimbatore District Administration removed the posters immediately on account of CM’s two-day visit to the city.
The pillars however were in no good condition due to the removal following which flex stickers of former Indian president, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, and freedom fighter VOC were put up in those places.
This attracted the passers-by, after which the public commented that the gesture has to be continued and all the pillars of the flyovers in the city has to be redecorated with pictures highlighting the legacy of Coimbatore, veteran leaders, which will as well reduce putting up posters.
The Gandhipuram Flyover, Avinashi Road Flyover, and North Coimbatore Flyover are currently in use in Coimbatore City. At present, construction of flyovers at Avinashi Road, Trichy Road, and Mettupalayam Road is in progress.
