Rs. 26.62 lakh worth foreign currency seized in Coimbatore

Foreign currencies worth Rs. 26.62 lakhs which were being smuggled from Coimbatore to Sharjah was confiscated by the Revenue Intelligence Department.


Coimbatore: Rs. 26.62 lakhs worth of foreign currency which was to be smuggled from Coimbatore to Sharjah was seized by the Revenue Intelligence Department. After a tip-off, the authorities checked the belongings of the passengers who were scheduled to board the Air Arabia flight at 4:10 am on Monday.

The baggage of Gokulakodeeswaran (27) of Kallakurichi was searched on suspicion. Hidden in his baggage filled with clothes were foreign currencies worth Rs 26.62 lakh, comprising the Saudi Arabian Riyal, the United Arab Emirates Dinar and the US dollar. All currencies were confiscated by the authorities. Gokulakodeeswaran has been arrested and is being investigated.
