Coracle ride in ponds in North Pond

The coracle ride was organized by the Kaushika Waters Organization at the Ottan Pond, a water body located in the north part of Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: There are many lakes, and ponds in the north part of Coimbatore district. For many years, however, they remained a dry, waterlogged area. One of the most important rainwater logging in the area is the lack of rainwater in the Kaushika River. About 16 acres of Keeranatham Ooty pond was flooded due to heavy rains that lashed the region in the last few days. Its full capacity travelled towards the Kalingarayan Lake.



The coracle ride was organized by the Kaushika Waters Organization at the Ottan Pond, a water body located in the north part of Coimbatore.

Volunteers and members of the public attended and thanked nature by sprinkling flowers. It is also considered to be the first water body to initiate the coracle ride in north of Coimbatore. The waterways for this are located in the municipality of Idigarai. The villagers expect this water level to fill up every year when they are properly maintained.



Also known as ‘Dongi’, coracle, is a bowl-shaped boat made of reed, saplings and hide. Regarded as one of the most thrilling boat rides, the coracle effortlessly complete with whirlpools, high currents and crocodiles in the water body.
