Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has been pushed down to second place among the cleanest cities list, this year.
Coimbatore Corporation, which topped the list of clean cities last year, has fallen behind in second place this year’s rankings.
The Swachh Bharat Mission was established in 2016 under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Every year, the cities are ranked across the country on the basis of public opinion and field studies. The ranks will be provided based on the points obtained. With the maximum being 6,000 points based on various categories including service, tourism, and technology.
The 'Rank' list for this year has now been released and Indore (Madhya Pradesh) has secured the top spot with 5618.14. Surat Nagar (Gujarat) secured 5559.21 and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) was third with 5368.37.
Chennai is ranked first in Tamil Nadu with 2781.23 marks out of 6,000 and 43rd nationally. Coimbatore is ranked 46th nationally with 2308.41 marks and second in Tamil Nadu. Madurai is ranked 47th with 2207.59 marks and third in Tamil Nadu.
Last year, Coimbatore Corporation secured the 40thrank nationally with a score of 2,337.11. It is noteworthy that Tamil Nadu has topped the list.
