Passengers shocked as stray dogs invade the Coimbatore Airport; CVC suggests placement of wicket gates

The passengers arriving at the Coimbatore International Airport are subjected to huge disturbances and threats as the street dogs inside the premises cause intrusion.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore International Airport has turned cacophonic as street dogs invade the airport premises and cause disturbances to the passengers.

Coimbatore International Airport has slowly started to return to normalcy with both the passengers and flight movements continuing to witness a steady growth post pandemic outbreak. The airport management has taken various steps in providing various amenities to the passengers and those arriving to send off air travellers.

The passengers are subjected to a big inconvenience in the recent days due to the street dogs which are roaming inside the airport premises. The continuous barking sounds and fights have turned the airport noisy. The airport is generally quiet and no announcements will be made, which has been disturbed now.

An Aviation Enthusiast, (AVGeek) shared pictures of the disturbances in their Twitter handle and mentioned an unfortunate incident of an elderly woman who was about to fall as the dogs charged towards her. Airport management has been urged to take needy steps at the earliest to help the passengers.

Coimbatore International Airport, Director, S. Senthil Valavan said, 'We too have received complaints from passengers regarding dog menace at the airport. For the past three months, we have been continuously taking up this issue with government officials and the Coimbatore Corporation. The close proximity in the nearby residential area is the major reason behind the menace. As per corporation officials, dogs will be sterilized only and as per the animal rights groups, dogs should be left back at their places after sterilization. Hence considering the above aspects we are continuously monitoring and taking steps to chase away the dogs outside the airport premises to ensure passengers are convenient and safe.'

The Citizens Voice Coimbatore (CVC), President,C.M. Jayaraman suggested that the Corporation management should ensure that the street dogs are sterilized including those at the airport area. A similar problem of cows invading the Collector’s office was fixed by setting up pipes. He added that the airport management shall establish wicket type gates at the airport premises, and animals shall not enter through such gates.
