The Counselling Centre for the Handicapped has been operating since September 1 in the Collector's Office on behalf of the District Administration. An employment camp is scheduled for January 2022 for the specially blessed.
Coimbatore: Awareness meeting on employment policy for the alternatively abled was held at the Corporation Kalaiarangam under the chairmanship of District Collector GS Sameeran. It was attended by 252 representatives from academia, industry and the corporate sector.
Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran said, 'The Government of India compels all companies to implement the Social Employment Policy through the Disability Rights Act 2016. The government has already sent a letter to all the companies in this regard through the Department of Alternative Skills Welfare. The Counselling Centre for the Handicapped is operational since September 1 at the campus of the Coimbatore District Collector's Office on behalf of the District Administration. It has provided employment to 52 persons with disabilities through the Counselling Centre. An employment camp is scheduled for January 2022 for the alternatively abled.'
The event was attended by officials including District Disability Welfare Officer Vasantha Kumar.
