DMK Environment Wing Secretary of State Karthikeya Sivasenapathy comments that the cancellation of all the three agricultural laws by central government is a historic victory for the farmers.
Coimbatore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday announced the repeal of all three agricultural laws.
DMK Environment Team Secretary of State Karthikeya Sivasenapathy in a press release said, it is the relentless struggle of the farmers and their courage to keep the Union Government at bay that the three agricultural laws was repealed. For more than a year the farmers struggled regardless of anything like sun, rain or cold. They did not condense the struggle into a small circle of farmers, but made clear the problems that the country would face with the implementation of the law. The militancy of the agrarian masses, who waged a determined struggle for the welfare of the people of the country, is commendable.
In the life of the Tamils, agriculture and the agricultural people have always been revered and worshiped as aristocratic people. The difference between North Indian and Dravidian cultures, especially the notable civilization in the Sangam literature, is that the attitude of viewing the farming as inferior and inferior in society prevails in North India then and now. He said in Tamil Nadu, in Tamil Sangam literature, there are those who consider the cultivators as the highest of all.
The rise of farmers has also been highlighted in Valluvar's Thirukural. He said through the Tamil texts we can feel in many places the importance given to trade and commerce and agriculture.
