An inebriated auto driver threatened to jump off a tank at the Pollachi Government Hospital causing a stir.
Coimbatore: Siddique, an auto driver from Pollachi Jothi Nagar C Colony, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol yesterday.
Then when the auto collided with a car on Bhadrakaliamman Kovil Road he fled to Pollachi Government Hospital. Madan Kumar, who was driving the car, lodged a complaint with the police.
Fearing that the police would file a case, Siddique suddenly climbed into a 70-foot-high overhead tank on the Government Hospital premises. There was a commotion as he threatened to jump from there and commit suicide. Siddique then went downstairs after the East Police Station police rushed there and persuaded him to come downstairs after lengthy negotiations. He said he went upstairs as he feared being prosecuted by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol.
