Volvo Car India opens new dealership in Coimbatore, one of the company’s largest showroom in India

Volvo Tamil Nadu starts sales and service operations in Coimbatore with the inauguration of a new sales and service space. The group on Friday launched the new Petrol mild-hybrid cars S90, XC60 and XC90 in Coimbatore.



Coimbatore: Swedish luxury car maker Volvo Car India opened a new dealership in Coimbatore, the Volvo Tamil Nadu at Goldwins, on Avinashi Road.

The new dealership, which is the second in Tamil Nadu, reflects the importance of the state as a market for luxury mobility and significance the city of Coimbatore holds for the affluent and inspirational customers of Tamil Nadu.

The new state-of-the-art showroom provides unique Swedish luxury experience. It is spread over an area of 7,000 square feet, while the workshop covers 13,000 square feet of space. This dealership will offer the complete range of Volvo Cars including the latest Petrol mild-hybrid cars S90, XC60& XC90.

The dealership was inaugurated by Mr. Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India. The Showroom incorporates state-of-the-art facilities and is designed as Volvo Retail Experience (VRE) concept.



Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Jyoti Malhotra, said, “Tamil Nadu is a very important market for us, and Coimbatore is among the fastest-growing cities and home to aspiring, affluent and environment conscious families in the state. Our new Coimbatore dealership will help us in reaching out to the growing market for luxury cars in the state and achieving our goal of providing safe and sustainable luxury mobility to our customers in India.”

The opening of the Coimbatore dealership assumes significance as it comes close on the heels of the company announcement of the launch of three new petrol mild-hybrid models -- the luxury sedan S90, the Volvo’s mid-size luxury SUV XC60 and flagship luxury SUV, the new Volvo XC90; all of which are on display at the Coimbatore showroom. With these launches, the company completely moves to petrol portfolio in India.

The S90 is Volvo’s premium 4-door, 5-seat flagship sedan. It is built on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), Volvo’s advanced modular vehicle platform. The SPA platform has resulted in the strongest Volvo cars to date because of extensive use of boron steel, as well as numerous safety systems designed to protect people inside and outside the car.

Winner of the World Car of the Year title in 2018 (the immensely popular XC60 has now advanced safety upgrades like Volvo Cars’ latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform, a modern, scalable active safety system that consists of an array of radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors.

The XC90 is a seven-seater SUV. It was the first car to be launched on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) in 2014, Volvo’s advanced modular and state-of-the-art product platform that features in all Volvo cars in the 90 and 60 Series.SPA also allows for far more flexibility inside the car. The new XC90 features innovatively designed seats that free up interior space for passengers in the second and third rows, helping make the new XC90 a genuine seven-seater.

Speaking to SimpliCity after the inauguration of the new dealership and launch of the three new models of cars Mr. Jyoti Malhotra stated that the group is all set to launch its electric vehicles (cars) from the following year. “On the cards is to launch one model of our electric car a year starting from 2022.” When probed how the company is dealing with the global semiconductor chip shortage, Managing Director, Volvo Car India stated that the company the shortage had resulted in delay in delivering cars to customers. The road ahead for Volvo Car India is smooth and the company has great expectations from the South Indian markets primarily the Tamil Nadu market is high.
