Minister Senthil Balaji asks to plan to prevent rainwater stagnation in Coimbatore

Rainwater has accumulated in 31 areas of the district. Also, rainwater has stagnated in 7 schools. Work is underway to remove it with a motor. The district administration and the corporation have made special arrangements to ensure that the district is not affected by the rains.

Coimbatore: All the ponds in the district are overflowing as the northeast monsoon intensifies in Coimbatore.

Of these, Valankulam, located in the Ukkadam area, reached its full capacity last week. Excess water from the pond overflowed into the Trichy road.

This caused great inconvenience to the public and motorists. Minister Senthil Balaji inspected Valankulam this morning.

He asked the authorities about the water's incoming route and exit route. Following this, the Minister told reporters that 26 ponds in Coimbatore district have been flooded due to the northeast monsoon. He said planning for rainwater drainage is important for Coimbatore as the outlet pipe from Valankulam is narrow and it needs to be redesigned.

Rainwater has accumulated in 31 areas of the district. Also, rainwater has stagnated in 7 schools. Work is underway to remove it with a motor. The district administration and the corporation have made special arrangements to ensure that the district is not affected by the rains. Thus no harm was done. There is no shortage of electricity due to rain. People's Assembly meetings were held at 150 places in Coimbatore.

The needs of the people will be examined sector wise and action will be taken soon. If it rains in Coimbatore, planning is required to drain the road so that rainwater does not stagnate. He also said that he would consult the concerned authorities in this regard.

Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran, Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara and officials were present during the inspection.
