Due to the heavy rains in Ooty last night, rain water flooded the residences in the Kandal area and Ooty MLA Ganesh personally visited the areas affected by the heavy rains.
The Nilgiris: Heavy rains lashed Ooty and surrounding areas of the Nilgiris district for more than 5 hours last evening.
Rain water infiltrated more than 30 flats in low lying areas in Kandal area near Ooty. The fire department visited the affected areas and rescued the civilians living in the rain-hit areas.
Following this, Ooty MLA Ganesh and Municipality Commissioner Saraswati inspected the rain-affected canals in Kandal this morning.
Municipality employees are working to remove debris that has accumulated in the Kanthal residential areas due to heavy rains.
The Meteorological Office has warned of heavy rains today. Camps have been set up to keep the general population in safe places if the impact of the heavy rains continues. The district administration said steps have been taken to accommodate the public.
