Tirupur: Heavy rains lashed Tirupur for 5 hours yesterday, causing floods on Avinashipalayam, Mangalam Road, Palladam Road, Perumanallur Road, College Road and Uthukuli Road. Houses in low-lying areas were also flooded due to continuous downpour.

Areas including Angeripalayam, Boyambalayam, Rayapuram and Gandhinagar have been affected by the floods.

More than 100 people from the Balan Nagar area under the 19th ward of Tirupur Corporation have participated in a road roko. More than eight streets, including Balan Nagar, PRG Garden and Vaishnavi Garden, were submerged to knee-deep water due to heavy rains last night.

Residents in the areas are struggling to get out as more than 200 houses and roads are in a state of disrepair due to the lack of tar roads which have dried up this morning. More than a hundred people are involved in a road roko, accusing the corporation authorities of not providing basic amenities to the people.
