Fire fighters rescue people including a child using a boat from rainwater logged houses near Palladam

Due to the heavy rains in the Avinashipalayam area, houses in the residential areas of Balaji Nagar were surrounded by rain water. Thus, those who were at home in the morning could not step outside. Those at home informed the Avinashipalayam police.


Tirupur: The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast showers in various districts of Tamil Nadu due to the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.

Heavy rains lashed various parts of Tirupur last night. Particularly in the Palladam area, including Pongalur, Panappalayam, Kamanaickenpalayam and Avinashipalayam, it began raining heavily since last evening continued till midnight.

Heavy traffic was reported on the Coimbatore-Trichy National Highway last night due to heavy rains. Due to the heavy rains in the Avinashipalayam area, houses in the residential areas of Balaji Nagar were surrounded by rain water. Thus those who were at home in the morning could not step outside. Those at home informed the Avinashipalayam police.



According to police, Shankar and Priya were trapped inside the houses when the Tirupur South and North fire brigades arrived at the scene. The couple along with their child Darshit (2) was rescued using a rubber boat. The rescued are taking shelter at a nearby government school.
