A 50-year-old tree was uprooted and the city of Coimbatore was plunged into darkness due to power cuts. Sai Baba Colony, Sivananda Colony Ramanathapuram, including various parts experienced power outages. Work is in progress to repair the rain-affected areas on behalf of the corporation since this morning.
Coimbatore: The Meteorological Office had warned of heavy rains in several districts, including Coimbatore, due to the new low pressure. Coimbatore was suddenly surrounded by dark clouds last night and it started raining. This was followed by three hours of rain with thunder and lightning. Motorists suffered due to the water logging. A 50-year-old tree was uprooted and the city of Coimbatore was plunged into darkness due to power cuts.
Water stagnated on bridges in Uppilipalayam, North Coimbatore and Lanka Corner areas. Roads in various parts of the state including Ukkadam, Ramanathapuram, Gandhipuram, Singanallur, Sundarapuram, Vadavalli, Gandhipuram, Racecourse, Puliakulam, Trichy Road, Saravanampatti, Ganapathy Managar, Peelamedu were flooded. Thus, traffic congestion occurred.
