Tirupur: Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a protest in Tirupur condemning the increase in yarn prices.

Yarn is the major raw material for the knitwear and power loom industry for the hosiery and allied companies in Tirupur. The yarn price has been on an upscale since the last few months and has spiked up to ₹.50 in a single day, the highest ever price spike.

The Communist Party of India protested in front of the Tirupur Kumaran memorial putting forth various demands. The agitators demanded that the Centre should take action on a war footing and detect cotton hoarding, stop exporting cotton and use it for domestic production. The protestors echoed the sentiments that despite multiple pleas made to the center regarding the issue, there has been no action taken as yet in this direction.

As a mark to symbolically protest against the yarn price spike the agitators took part in a demonstration wearing leaves as their outfits. The protestors termed it as a ‘go green’ protest.
