Coimbatore: The arrested school principal has filed a petition seeking bail in the case of a Coimbatore student who committed suicide due to sexual harassment.
A 17-year-old plus 2 student from Coimbatore's Ukkadam area committed suicide by hanging herself at home 12 days ago. Student's suicide note said that Mithun Chakravarty, 35, a physics teacher at a private school in RS Puram, sexually harassed her while attending Plus 1 at the school.
Subsequently, he was arrested by the police in the POCSO section and lodged in the Udumalaijail. The student complained several times to the school principal that the teacher was sexually harassing her, and various organizations staged a protest demanding the arrest of school principal Meera Jackson, 46, who did not take action against the teacher involved, and refused to receive the student's body.
