Student suicide in Coimbatore; Police investigates who provided psychological counselling

Police are investigating the case and have arrested and jailed Mithun Chakravarty, a former private school physics teacher, and Meera Jackson, the school's principal, under three sections, including POCSO act. In this case, the autopsy result of the student is yet to be made public. The police are investigating the case from various angles.


Coimbatore: Parents of the teenage girl who took the extreme step complained that a 17-year-old student from Coimbatore's Ukkadam area had committed suicide as she was sexually harassment at a former school. The police are conducting an in-depth investigation from various angles.

The student, who studied up to class 11 in a private school in Coimbatore, joined a government school two months ago after obtaining a transfer certificate stating that she did not want to study at the school. Last week when no one was home, the teenage student committed suicide by hanging herself on the electric fan.

The parents of the student lodged a complaint at the Ukkadam police station. Police are investigating the case and have arrested and jailed Mithun Chakravarty, a former private school physics teacher, and Meera Jackson, the school's principal, under three sections, including POCSO act. In other developments, in the case, the autopsy results of the student are yet to be made public. The police are investigating the case from various angles.

Meanwhile, the police are also taking a closer look at a letter allegedly written by a student addressing 3 people saying 'no one should be left alone'.

Mithun Chakravarty, a school teacher, allegedly sexually harassed the student and when the girl complained to the school administration about the sexual harassment, the headmistress, who was careless told her not to inform the parents about this and has also arranged to provide psychological counselling to the student. Police are investigating as to who counselled the school student? Was it an accredited psychiatrist? If it really was a doctor who got there? Were more students counselled there? The fact that the police are conducting investigations from various angles has caused controversy.

Four special team police are conducting a detailed investigation into the Coimbatore student suicide to determine as to who are the two people mentioned in the student's letter? Was anyone else also responsible for the suicide? Are there any other reasons for suicide?
