Coimbatore: An interest free loan of Rs. 50,000 is provided to transgender persons with disabilities that can be used to start a business in Coimbatore.
The district administration works with charities with the aim of creating employment and self-employment opportunities for the disabled.
The Life Ray Foundation, which operates on the ground floor of the Collector's Office, is a non-profit organization for transgender and women's groups. Project Coordinator Fazil Rahman says, "In the last two months alone, 73 people have benefited. Scholarships have been awarded to 132 students who scored above 85 per cent. Assistance is also being provided for the purchase of medical equipment for the disabled."
Company Director Aishwarya Dev says: ''Apart from lending to the disabled, members of the transgender community and women's groups, we also provide training in candle making, toy making, tailoring and mushroom cultivation. Training and assistance is also provided on marketing of manufactured goods. Not only this, we are ready to provide interest free loans of up to Rs 20 lakh to start-ups who want to start innovative businesses."
