Coimbatore: The forest department has banned tourists from entering the Azhiyaru Kavi waterfall due to continuous rains in the Western Ghats near Pollachi.
The northeast monsoon continues to lash in the catchment areas of Valparai, Kavarkal and Shakthi Estate in the Western Ghats near Pollachi in Coimbatore district. As a result the water level spiked in the Monkey Falls.
Furthermore, due to the heavy rain since last night, another waterfall is flooded. The forest department has banned tourists from bathing in the Kavi Falls, which is controlled by the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, due to flood waters.
And since today is a public holiday, a large number of tourists from various districts and states returned disappointed as they were banned from visiting the falls.
Tourists are also worried about the ongoing northeast monsoon and the ongoing floods in the falls. Pollachi forest rangers led by Pollachi forest ranger Pukahendi have been on full-time patrol duty to warn tourists not to come near Kavi Aruvi Pollachi and also has advised to stay safe from landslides on the Valparai road.
