Class 12 student commits suicide by hanging in Coimbatore due to sexual harassment - District Primary Education Officer inspects school

Fellow students have accused the school's physics teacher Mithun Chakravarty of sexually harassing 17-year-old student.



Coimbatore: The incident where a school student committed suicide due to sexual harassment in Coimbatore has caused a great stir.

The 17-year old student who was studying Class 12 in Coimbatore Ukkadam Kotai Medu area. She committed suicide by hanging herself at around 5pm yesterday. She was studying at Chinmaya Vidyalaya School in Coimbatore RS Puram. Friends of 17-year-old student recorded over the phone that the student was expelled from school last month.

Mithun Chakravarty, the school's physics teacher, was also accused of sexually harassing 17-year-old student. Ukkadam police have recovered the body of a student who died and sent it to Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy. Also, the RS Puram All Women Police Station has registered a case and is investigating. Following this, the students in the school have also started giving voice in favour of Tarani. Tarani's parents are adamant that their daughter committed suicide because the school administration did not take action.

17-year-old student committed suicide by hanging herself in her room after leaving a confession yesterday evening saying, "Rita's grandfather, Elisa Charu's father, and her school teacher should not be left unpunished for using inappropriate words."

The student's boyfriend said that the student had confessed that Mithun Chakravarty, a physics teacher at a private school where she had previously studied, had been sexually harassing her and she wanted to commit suicide. They also confiscated the student's cell phone, confession letter and the cell phone of her boyfriend. According to the parents of the student, the student has been crying from time to time for the last 6 months.

School principal Jayalakshmi said the family had to relocate to Madurai in the first week of last September, they had asked for a transfer certificate. She said she had given them a transfer certificate in two days and did not know what happened after that. Also, the Principal refused to talk about Mithun. She said nothing can be said without talking to the school correspondent. The wife of teacher Mithun Chakraborty also works in the same school. According to the parents of the students studying in the school, the teacher Mithun Chakravarty was not taking classes.

The Coimbatore District Primary Education Officer Geetha is conducting an inspection at the school and the school campus is seen as bustling.
