Tirupur: A huge condemnation broke after a school in Tirupur was presented with Periyar’s book, ‘Why Women Got Enslaved?’

An advertisement was issued by the Tirupur Jaiwabhai Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School requesting books for the school library a few days ago. Seeing this ad, an individual presented a book, ‘Why Women Got Enslaved?’ by Periyar to the school library and school girls.

The book contains the ideologies of Periyar on marriage and the system of enslaving women in the name of marriage in the Hindu culture. It is stated that the book was provided to the students without reading them.

The Bharatiya Janata Party members in Tirupur North under the leadership of district president Senthilvel condemned and protested at the school claiming that the book contained hate comments against the Hindu community and derogatory treatment of Hindu women.

The agitators urged the headmistress, Stella Marie to withdraw the books distributed and to no longer provide such books to school girls. The headmistress, Stella Marie, expressed that the books were presented by an individual and were provided to students without reading. She promised to withdraw them and get rid of all the issues in the library after which the agitators dispersed from the place.
