Coimbatore: Prices of vegetables have fallen in the MGR wholesale market in Coimbatore. Tomatoes were sold for ₹ 40 in the market.
MGR Wholesale Market is located on Coimbatore-Mettupalayam Road. Tomatoes, onions, cabbages, flat beans, onions arrive at the market from Karnataka and onions from Coimbatore, while carrots, beetroots, beans, and potatoes are bought from Nilgiris. The retailers purchase goods in bulk from the market for sale.
Tomatoes sold for Rs.80 last week were sold for Rs.40 to Rs.35. Similarly, prices of vegetables including carrots and beans have slumped. Carrots were sold for Rs.50, Beans for Rs.40, Cabbage at Rs.8, Ridge guard at Rs.22, Bitter gourd at Rs.22, Snake guard at Rs.15, and lady’s finger for Rs.55. Similarly, potatoes were sold for Rs.25 per kg, small onions for Rs.35, and large onions for Rs.37.
The other small markets and retailers sell these vegetables at an excess rate of up to Rs.10 per kg
