A preparatory review meeting to deal with the Northeast monsoon was held at the Coimbatore Collectorate.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore District Special Vigilance Officer, Darez Ahmed stated that all arrangements are in place to combat the Northeast monsoon in the district.
A review meeting on the preparations to tackle the Northeast monsoon was held at the District Collectorate.
The review meeting was attended by officials from various departments and led by Darez Ahmed who has been appointed as the Special District Monitoring Officer, Coimbatore.
Briefing the media, Darez Ahmed stated that all arrangements were well in place in Coimbatore to tackle the Northeast monsoon. "A police control room and a disaster control room, taluk-wise, have been set up at the District Collectorate and the public can contact them regarding any issue, round-the-clock. I will visit areas that are already affected and doctors and emergency vehicles are on standby throughout the city in affected areas.
Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran subsequently stated that a total of 27 places have been identified as "areas of tension" in Valparai, Mettupalayam, Sirumugai, and Bhavani River beds. Special committees have been formed and food has been stocked for seven days. 1835 volunteers have been placed for immediate response to any emergencies that may arise for people in these areas. "The district administration is ready in every way to face the Northeast monsoon though Coimbatore district has received an orange alert. Schools alone will not function tomorrow as well,” added the Collector.
The CCMC Commissioner, Raja Gopal Sunkara stated that “Teams have been formed to prevent rainwater logging in flyovers and low-lying areas in the Corporation. The process of pumping logged water using motors is underway. Similarly, all measures are ready for the police teams from both the city and the State to initiate action."
