The passenger Express Train between Coimbatore and Palani resumed operation on Wednesday and the first train was flagged off by BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore South MLA and BJP Women’s Wing President, Vanathi Srinivasan flagged off the express train from Coimbatore to Palani.
The passenger trains without reservations were halted during the pandemic. With the spread of the virus lowering now, certain passenger trains have been converted to express trains. The Express Train between Coimbatore and Palani resumed today.
The train runs from Coimbatore to Palani via Pollachi and charges passengers a minimum of ₹.30 and a maximum of ₹.55 up to Palani.
The train starts at 2.10 pm from Coimbatore and reaches Palani at 4.40 pm.
The train is then converted into Palani-Madurai express train and reaches Madurai by 7.40 pm. The train starts from Palani at 11.15 a.m. and reaches Coimbatore railway station at 2 p.m.
The train was flagged off by Coimbatore South MLA, Vanathi Srinivasan, and distributed sweets to the passengers.
Talking to reporters here, she said this train would ease the travel for public visiting temple sites such as Pollachi, Anaimalai Masani Amman Temple, and Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple and the tourist attractions like Kodaikanal and Valparai at low cost.
Coimbatore MP P R Natarajan inaugurated the train two years back as a passenger train. The MP expressed that the launch of the train service between Coimbatore and Pollachi is welcoming but, condemned the minimum fare raised to ₹.30 from ₹.10.
The passengers rejoiced as the service between Coimbatore and Palani resumed after two years.
