But Sandhya, the 19-year-old girl from Kalkothi tribal area in Mathvarayapuram area, is all set to become first graduate of her community. She is studying BSc. Computer Science final year at Government College, Valparai.
She is the first student in the community to enrol in college after completing the tenth and twelfth classes. She said, "I wanted to study unlike other students in the village. After growing up watching my widowed mother struggle to cope with her life as a day labourer, I decided to pursue higher studies. "
She also conducts classes to help students in her community with their studies. Sandhya also said that she intends to appear for government competitive examinations after completing her college studies.
