In prepartion for the local polls in Tirupur district which are to be held soon, necessary verification of Electronic Voting Machines are being widely carried out in the district.
Tirupur: The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) stored at the Nanjappa Municipal Boys Higher Secondary School in Tirupur were verified for working conditions as Tirupur district readies itself for local polls.
There are 2,512 polling stations in eight assembly constituencies in Tirupur district. The aggregate of voters is 23,66,211 out of which 11,68,682 are men, 11, 97, 236 are women and 293 are transgenders. The dates of the local body elections are expected to be announced soon and preparatory work has been accelerated. The Election Board officials have begun preparing the ward-wise list of local bodies based on the draft electoral rolls and the officials are expected to finish all preparations for the elections soon. Once the list is ready, a decision will be taken on the location of the booths.
The local body elections will be held for Tirupur Corporation, five Municipalities and 16 Town Panchayats. Training is being imparted to the Corporations, Municipalities and Town Panchayats to handle Electronic Voting Machines. The nominations in the respective local bodies will begin after the election dates are announced.
Out of the 16 Town Panchayats in the district, there are 246 wards and 259 polling booths.
The EVMs for the local polls were stored at Nanjappa Municipal Boys Higher Secondary School in Tirupur.
A performance-check camp was held on Tuesday with technicians from BHEL checking the machines.
