The TASMAC officials closed 58 bars in the city that were functioning without renewing the license despite providing grace time period limit.

Coimbatore: The TASMAC officials ordered the closure of as many as 58 TASMAC bars that were functioning without renewing the license.

The district has 115 outlets, 41 TASMAC shops in the city in the South, and 74 shops in the suburbs with bar facilities run by private owners. The TASMAC bars resumed operation on the 1st of last month after remaining closed for several months. The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) officials went on an inspection after receiving complaints that several bars were functioning without a valid license.

They issued notices to unlicensed bars and directed them to renew the license immediately. However, 58 bars failed to renew their licenses within the deadline issued by the authorities. These 58 TASMAC bars were closed by the officials in Pollachi, Anaimalai, Kinathukadavu, and Sultanpet.

The bars shall be open to public once the operators obtain the license.
