Renewable energy sectors such as solar and wind energy play a vital role in fulfilling the spike in demand for electricity across the nation. More than 10,000 million units of electricity generated through windmills in Tamil Nadu till October. Industrialists opine overall generation will cross 11,000 million units before March.
Coimbatore: Renewable energy sectors such as solar, wind energy etc., play a vital role in fulfilling the spike in demand for electricity across the nation.
This is the reason for both the central and state governments to give move importance for the development activities in the renewable energy sector.
Tamil Nadu continues to be one of the best states in generating more electricity through wind mills every year. Tamil Nadu has installed capacity of 9,500 MW in the wind energy sector. Usually wind season starts in the end of May and progresses till the end of September every year. But for the past few years the season is starting earlier. This year the season started during April. From the beginning the electricity generation was good.

Indian Wind Power Association, (IWPA), Chairman, K. Kasthuri Rangaiyan said, "This year we predicted that the overall electricity generation would be so good. As predicted this year till October more than 10,000 million units of electricity have been generated across Tamil Nadu. In the previous year till March, 10,000 million units of electricity were generated. But this year by the end of October itself more than 10,000 million units of electricity have been generated.
Hence, this year, overall electricity generation by wind mills would cross 11,000 million units before March." he said.
