A thief who had stabbed a woman when she was alone at home to steal her jewellery has been sentenced to 7 years in prison by a Coimbatore court.
Coimbatore: Bindu, an engineer from Ganapathy Gandhi Nagar, Coimbatore had moved to Mysore on October 15, 2013 leaving behind his wife Adira alone at their home in Coimbatore.
At 10 pm that night, when the door bell rang, Adira immediately opened the door and found a young man standing outside and requesting for water to drink.
The man reportedly took Adira by surprise when he boldly entered the house, brandished a knife and asked Adira for her chain. A shocked but enraged Adira refused to give him the chain, afer which the man slit Adira's neck and stabbed her with a knife, snatched the chain and fled on a motorcycle.
The Saravanampatti police had registered a case and arrested Arvind Kumar (27) of Marakkadai area in Coimbatore in connection with the theft and stabbing of Adira. The case which was now heard in an additional court resulted in Judge Krishnapriya Aravind sentencing the accused to 7 years imprisonment. Following this, Aravind Kumar has been imprisoned in Coimbatore.
