Flood alert issued for people living along the river area of Aliyar Dam

The Department of Public Works and the Department of Revenue issued flood alerts to the public asking them to refrain from going near the river area along the Aliyar Dam, to graze sheep or wash clothes.


Coimbatore: There has been a flood alert of extreme levels of danger in at least two places in Coimbatore district on Tuesday. Due to continuous rains in the Western Ghats, 2400 cubic feet of water was filling the Upper Aliyar catchment area at 6 pm on Monday, with Aliyar Dam reaching its full capacity of 120 feet.

Thus, 2400 cubic feet of surplus water is being discharged over a period of 11 months for the safety of the dam. The Flood Hazard Warning has been issued by the Department of Public Works and the Department of Revenue alerting the general public along the river area not to venture out to graze sheep and wash clothes.
