Kodanad murder-cum-heist trial postponed to Nov. 26

The sessions judge in Nilgiris issued orders postponing the trial of the Kodanad murder-cum-heist case after the police department demanded additional time for investigations.


The Nilgiris:The Nilgiris sessions judge, Sanjay Baba adjourned the hearing of the Kodanad murder-cum-heist case to November 26, after the police department sought additional time for further investigations.

The District Sessions court in Ooty was bustling as three major hearings were held in connection with the Kodanad murder-cum-heist case. The investigations have been carried out for the third month now, and the Nilgiris sessions court judge, Sanjay Baba adjourned the hearing to the 26th of this month. The hearings were held on other petitions in the Ooty district court in connection with the case.

The 11th and 12th accused in the Kodanad murder-cum-heist case, Kanagaraj’s brother Dhanapal and cousin Ramesh were arrested recently and the bail petitions of the two were heard on Monday. The prosecution demanded that the hearing on the bail plea should be adjourned to November 12 as the special prosecutors in the case were not present due to the Chennai rains.

Similarly, a request was made on the part of the petitioners for a trial through video conferencing. The judge accepted the arguments of both sides and adjourned the hearing to November 10. The second accused in the case, Walayar Manoj’s counsel filed a petition seeking further relaxation on Manoj’s bail. Manoj was granted bail last July but could not get out of prison due to certain conditions. A hearing will be held on November 11 with regard to his plea.

The judicial custody of Ramesh and Kangaraj ended today and they were produced before the judge today. The judge extended the custody of the duo for another 15 days. Following this, both men were taken back to the Gudalur sub-jail.
