The city’s cyber police department has issued a warning to the public to beware of the fake job offer messages sent to them as such messages can leave them ending up losing money.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore cyber police forewarned the public of the rising fake job offers that rob them of their money.
The job market has sunk post the pandemic, and this situation has become a golden opportunity for fraudsters who extract money from innocent job seekers. The number of complaints of people losing money to fake job offers has rocketed, state the cybercrime department.
Phone calls made under the pretext to offer loan, offer fake id’s on Facebook, part-time job offers, work from home job opportunity, small scale entrepreneurship for women from home with cosmetics dresses, cell phone kind of messages target job seekers by offering attractive schemes and ultimately rob them of their money in various instalments. These messages are sent to the public through their WhatsApp and the victim(s) are directed to proceed availing the benefits through a link.
Through these messages, people are driven to invest a certain amount in reputed private companies and are in turn promised an income of ₹.900 per day from home. Victims fall prey and register through the link. Promises are made such that they will get ₹.350 if they pay ₹.200 first. Subsequently, if a person pays ₹.1000, they will receive ₹.2,000.
Many people who have invested between ₹.50,000 and ₹.1 lakh from Coimbatore have been cheated of money. The cybercrime police have issued warnings against such fraudulent messages and have asked the public not to fall prey to them.
