45-year old man's corpse found floating in BAP canal near Palladam

The corpse of a man with a rope tied around his neck was found floating in the BAP canal in Pongalur near Palladam and was recovered by the Avinashipalayam police.


Coimbatore: At Pongalur Semalaigavundanpalayam near Palladam in Tirupur district, water has released into the old BAP canal for irrigation purposes. While some people from the area were bathing and washing clothes in the canal on Sunday evening, the corpse of a 45-year old man was found floating in the canal water with his legs and neck tied with a rope. The people immediately informed the Avinashipalayam police.



The police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Tirupur Government Hospital for autopsy. The deceased has been identified as Viswanathan (45), a resident of Tirupur who is survived by his wife Thavamani and son Karthikeyan. Police investigation revelated that Viswanathan had been intending to end his life by suicide, due to mental distress at his home. Since Saturday morning, Viswanathan's family had reportedly been searching for him after finding a handwritten letter by Viswanathan that no one should look for him. Since his corpse was found tied with a rope in the BAP canal near Pongalur, Avinashipalayam police are conducting a serious investigation to ascertain if he committed suicide or was killed.
