A 20-year-old Poovan tree was uprooted and fell on Avinashi Road at Uppilipalayam on the Coimbatore-Avinashi Road due to heavy rains. As it was early morning in this congested area, there was no traffic and thus a major accident was avoided.
Coimbatore: A 20-year-old Poovan tree at the Police Community Center on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore was uprooted due to heavy rains. Heavy rains accompanied with thunderstorms lashed various parts of Coimbatore last evening till midnight.
As a result, various parts of the city are flooded with rainwater. Motorists are having a hard time as rainwater is stagnant on the roads. Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Poovan tree was uprooted and fell on Avinashi Road at Uppilipalayam on the Coimbatore-Avinashi Road due to heavy rains. Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara, upon receiving information visited the location and inspected it. The fire brigade arrived at the scene and with the help of logging machines and Bokline machine were engaged in clearing the fallen tree on the road.
