The Minister who attended the Makkal Sabha Meeting in Pollachi stated that substations will be set up as per the Chief Minister’s orders to implement the three-phase power.
Pollachi: The Tamil Nadu state Electricity Minister stated that substations will be set up as per the Chief Minister’s orders to implement the 24-hour three-phase power supply for the farmers.
A People Sabha Meeting was held in Pollachi Odaiyakulam, Vettaikaranpudhur areas. The Electricity Minister, Senthil Balaji received petitions from the people during the meeting. The Minister who later spoke to the press alleged that the announcement of a three-phase power supply for farmers was made for the sake of elections.
The AIADMK government announced the three-phase electricity for farmers round the clock, at the end of February and issued Government Order’s in March.The announcement was however made without improving the basic infrastructure for providing a three-phase power supply, alleged the state Electricity Minister. He added that the power supply can be issued only if the infrastructure is improved at the cost of rupees 1,800 crores.
Further, the minister said 'The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has issued orders to set up substations at 216 locations to improve the power sector in Tamil Nadu and the preparations are underway.The Chief Minister launched a special scheme to install new transformers at 8,905 locations in the state. Over 4,500 transformers have been installed in the state to date under the scheme.'
'The three-phase power supply for the farmers round the clock will be provided only after improving the structures in the Electricity Board,' added the minister.
Minister Senthil Balaji told reporters that there are 56,000 vacancies in the electricity sector and the TNEB is in a debt of ₹.1,59,000 crore. He added that the board is currently paying ₹.16,000 crore interest per annum. Steps will be taken to fill up the vacancies in the future stated the minister.
Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran, Pollachi MP Shanmugasundaram, and government officials were present at the Makkal Sabha Meeting.
