The city police have arrested 39 people who burst crackers on Diwali beyond the stipulated time limit.
Coimbatore: The district police arrested 39 people who burst crackers beyond the stipulated time in Coimbatore city.
In order to curb pollution, permissions were granted to burst crackers at a stipulated time. In the morning people were permitted to burst crackers from 6 am to 7 am and from 7 to 8 pm in the evening. The police issued a warning that stringent action will be taken on those guilty of violating the norms.
As many as 32 people were arrested for not following the directive in the suburbs of the city. Another 7 were arrested in Coimbatore for violating the rules. Six cases were registered in the Periyanayakanpalayam sub-division, 9 in Perur sub-division, 5 from the Karumathampatti sub-division, 4 from the Pollachi subdivision, 5 cases in Valparai, and 3 cases in Mettupalayam Sub-Division adding 32 persons.
Seven cases were registered in Coimbatore city. A total of 39 cases have been registered in the district and 39 arrested. Investigations are underway.
