A tea plantation worker in Valparai suffered injuries after she panicked and ran fearing an attack by a bear that she spotted in the area.
Valparai: A woman fell and was injured after she fled from a Valparai plantation where she was working on spotting a bear.
Movement of bears has been on the rise in Villoni Estate area near Valparai. At around 11 am on Friday morning, workers were busy with their usual work in plantation 17. A bear that was strolling the area hunting for food entered the plantation and caused panic. Arulmeri (48), an estate worker fled fearing an attack by the bear but unfortunately stumbled and injured herself. She was taken to the hospital by other workers and was sent home after treatment.
The Valparai Forest Department led by Manampalli Forest Department Officer, Manikandan who rushed to the area after learning of the incident, consoled the injured woman and are keeping a close watch on the area where the bear was spotted. The incident caused a stir in the area.
